PSG v Lyon postponed by a day as Paris prepares for protests

Lyon lead the table with PSG second. The match now falls on the same day as the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London.

Paris St-Germain's Ligue 1 match against Lyon, due at the Parc des Princes on Sunday at 19:45 GMT, has been postponed by 24 hours to Monday at 20:30 GMT after French police prohibited the fixture from taking place on its original date, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) announced in a statement on Friday.

The capital is preparing for another weekend of demonstrations. Around 550,000 people joined protests across France last Saturday over rising fuel prices, education standards and the cost of living, and some marches were marred by violence, looting and destruction. Police resources are further stretched by Sunday's NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France, which requires a significant security deployment. Toulouse's home game against Troyes has also been moved, from Saturday to Sunday.

What it means for the table

The postponement delays a top-of-the-table meeting: Lyon lead Ligue 1 after seven matches, with PSG second. The rescheduled fixture will now be played on the same day as the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London.
